Go out any night and walk the streets of any village, town or
city in Ireland and pick a pub, Bunowen - Co. Mayo, Hughes - Dublin,
Durty Nellys - Bunratty, Taffes - Galway.
Go to the back room and there gathered around a small table are
traditional Irish musicians, maybe two or three, maybe six, maybe a
dozen sitting with a cluster of pints.
The musicians look at each other, grin, trade solos. Each, a
master of their instrument, taking turns to lead the session. Not
playing for money, but for themselves, the audience, for the
ancestors who passed on this musical tradition. They are playing for
the music. In Ireland we have a word for the genuine mixture of
great talk, great company, great music and dance: CRAÍC.
This musical event has been passed down for generations - the
uptempo jigs and reels, the slow airs and laments, the great songs
and ballads.
Ceol na Mara embrace all these elements of what is known the
world over as Traditional Irish Music. But through the use of
Original and Unique Harmonies, some Classical and Modern Music,
Unusual Rhythms and Dance, Ceol na Mara prove themselves to be true
Champions of Irish Music.
